I'm a systems and network administrator, IT consultant, Web developer, LAN and computer fixer, and technical writer. Linux/Unix, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, vSphere ESXi. I've also had a career as an advocacy writer, and a general non-fiction writer and copyeditor. I helped invent the entire concept of online activism in the 1990s, co-authored Protecting Yourself Online (Harper-Collins, 1998), and am one of the principal authors of the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Rates for tech work are $75 to $125 per billable hour, depending on the type and complexity of the work at hand (most research time on tech projects is not billable in my book). I do the virtual office and co-working thing, and contract out stuff that's outside my skill set on an as-needed basis. No permanent-office rent and no long-term employees keeps my rates low.
